Stripe and Swift are expanding infrastructure for programmable cross-border payments through different models. Swift has prepared a blockchain ledger for pilot transfers of tokenized deposits among 17 banks across six regions.
The system is designed for round-the-clock operations while preserving bank controls and final settlement through existing infrastructure. Stripe is developing stablecoin accounts, wallets for AI agents and micropayment tools through its product platform.
One approach brings digital money into the banking network, while the other gives developers APIs for new financial applications. Neither project replaces the main payment system today. Both add new settlement and programmability layers around existing financial rails.
