Morph has launched Tachyon, an independent Layer 1 designed for trading and high-performance onchain markets. The existing Ethereum-based Morph Layer 2 will continue supporting payments, stablecoins and open-finance applications.

The company is separating infrastructure because trading systems require different latency, order-execution and state-management characteristics than payment applications. Tachyon is intended as a specialized environment for exchanges, derivatives and other markets while remaining connected to the broader Morph ecosystem.

Launching a new Layer 1 does not guarantee liquidity or active applications. The project still needs developers, market makers, validators and users, as well as secure asset movement between the two networks. The strategy reflects a broader shift from general-purpose blockchains toward chains optimized for specific financial workloads.
