Base went live on the Astrolescent bridge on August 29, adding a route into the Coinbase L2 from Radix, Solana, Sui, Sonic, Aptos and Arbitrum. For Base, the important part is not another bridge button. It is the expansion of where new liquidity can originate.
Astrolescent says it has rewritten its EVM wallet integration so that new EVM-compatible networks can be added faster. It also says Hyperlane support is being integrated. If that infrastructure works as intended, Base becomes accessible from a wider set of ecosystems without users having to move through a centralized exchange first.
There is a clear trade-off. More bridges can improve access and liquidity, but every additional bridge adds another security and operational surface. A large inflow is therefore not automatically positive. The quality of the bridge, its settlement model and the concentration of liquidity matter just as much.
The launch is documented in Astrolescent’s August 29 update.
The useful question for Base over the next few days is simple: does the new route bring repeat capital, or only one-time launch traffic?
Bridge growth is valuable when it creates durable liquidity, not when it only increases the number of supported chains.
